Quan Yin

This small statue of Quan Yin cracked and broken, yet bearing such compassion and composure, seems like a fitting symbol for our fractured humanity. The statue is from the Green Gulch Zen Center in California.

Until recently I had no idea of who made it or how it came to be where it is. Now I know it was made by Victoria Fahey and represents a moment in her long struggle to create a Quan Yin that matched a Ming Dynasty statue that her grandmother had had. To see more of the statues that she now makes, and how to purchase one similar to this one see her website

The statue pictured here was brought to Green Gulch by the Soto Zen teacher Yvonne Rand.
